Tech giant Apple has discontinued a key service it launched to address chronic issues with certain models. The company will no longer offer Apple’s free repair program, which was particularly relevant to iPhone 12 and MacBook Pro users. Therefore, users experiencing certain malfunctions with these devices will now be required to pay for repairs.
Which Apple free repair program has ended?
Apple launched special repair programs for two different issues commonly seen worldwide and considered manufacturing-related. However, these programs have expired, and they are no longer valid. Here are the details of the discontinued programs.
As is known, some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models experienced a problem with audio loss during calls due to a faulty handset module. Apple offered a repair program for affected devices valid for three years from the date the product was first sold. However, more than three years have passed since the first models went on sale, so this program has now ended.
Another discontinued program was the display issue known as “Flexgate,” which affected 2016 13-inch MacBook Pros. This issue resulted in a spotlight-like illumination appearing at the bottom of the screen, or the screen going completely black. The problem was caused by a flexible cable that had worn out over time. Apple’s five-year repair support for these devices has also expired.
